Thorpe Moeckel
Thorpe Moeckel is a poet and wilderness enthusiast who spent years guiding trips on rivers and trails throughout the Appalachians. His first book of poems, Odd Botany, won the Gerald Cable Award and was published in 2002. A second collection, Making a Map of the River, was published in 2008. Moeckel's work has appeared in Verse, Orion, Shenandoah, Open City, Rivendell, Virginia Quarterly Review, and Field, among others. He teaches in the MFA Program at Hollins University and lives with his family on a small farm near the James River in Western Virginia.
